The 2008 Syria-Israel peace talks were achieved through Turkey's active engagement\, with Erdogan literally serving as the go-between. U.S. did not align 100% with Turkey's goals to peaceful nuclear energy. The Turkish public opinion showed a decline in U.S. support after every intervention. Turkey evolved into a much more independent geopolitical player\, but it also became less predictable. As regional instability increased\, Turkey was no longer an "island of stability" for the United States but a source of new\, often unexpected regional impulses. The decade began with Turkey\, entangled with public and legal issues\, was met with total honesty and zero softening to Obama [normalize relations between Palestinians and Israelis]: "we don't need any other problems" following the nine activists killed during the flotilla raid.
